There I was laying on bed sheets Looking at the dust flying in the sun Climbing through my broken blinds I don't regret the moments I took from you Maybe now the dirt can recall me better than you did But my face wasn't wine so I don't think so
I woke up in bed Covered in twigs and stems Biting your cheek so you can't stay I took out my hands and watched my fingertips Dripping colors from my dreams Do you see what I see? I can't see the bags Under your eyes pouring Over growth the forest floor encroaching on your bony chin I took out my hands and watched my fingertips Dripping colors from my dreams Ripping your eyeballs into reams
I don't think you know what you are Other than what you thought you once were But not you're the nest in my palm And so it rests between my thumbs Don't come to me when you want to clean your wings I don't think you know what I'm capable of Don't drag your feet under my skin You think you can lay your kin in my place Your toxic thoughts are spreading on my space
I saw you sleeping like a bug Coiled up against the wall Falling thoughts upon the rug I stood there unsure of what to say You told me that you changed But I can see through those glass cheeks And the tongue that bites them You're bleeding again I see you crawling out from your spinal chord I see you holding onto your crumbling skin
I'm so tired of your dirty dishes And they lay in our sink Oh you dropped my jaw My only form of communication A leaf fell from the bone Holding back what I never spoke So I rolled into the rug The fibers listen to my thoughts
I climbed into a crack that opened from your back When you bent forward I crawled inside Taking note of porcelain What is your composition? I waited for the day to subside There are markings on the wall Has someone been here before? I took a breath with every step I took From the depths I heard a call Can you hear it too? Am I breathing too loud? Are you frightened too?
Tying strings to doorknobs Pulling out my loose teeth I waited for that day to come But all that came was yesterdays reluctancies Looking past my vacant tongue A presence of a breath is gone Maybe back when I dropped my lungs From drinking the air your mouth The sweet nectar of empty promises
Trace back patchwork recollection I've done my best to forget Sifting the rot that blankets the ground At the base of this tree We were scattered seeds Doomed to repeat this cycle it seems Grow and decay Repeat it's all the same
I tied my thoughts into a stem And tried to go outside I hate this house walls are caving in I can't breathe my lungs are wearing thin I walked beneath meristems They held me down I let them I'm growing older And my skin will too Can you tell that I reached out? I'll take you with me too I sank so far couldn't have known Where I began since you were gone So long ago But I shall remain Oh I will remain
I'm a root on your pore So pull me out And I am under your skin But I am growing thin It's every other word that isn't on your lips It's the polyvagal nerve twitch Your head sends a message for your throat to constrict And you know that you're no good at hiding it Your roots are exposed
You stood upside down Your molars hanging by a thread Outside of your mouth Salivating Waiting for me to run I am stuck here I am wasting under leaves I thought you would decompose long ago I thought you would never leave The fungi is climbing over me I sank into the dirt My lips have become The tangible manifestations Of my aching thirst
